I am glad to declare our new 100 DVD burning test results. Besides other criterion we are first also in the speed. We have been able to increase recording speeds by 25% for the highest throughput. Version 5 is now not in beta stage anymore and you can buy it from next Monday. Lets see what BurnWorld has to say about us as compared to other products in the market. I am reproducing part of the BurnWorld’s analysis here:
After testing 20+ DVD Copy apps here in our labs our overall leader is 1Click. Video compression quality is the fastest and best we’ve seen, about 3x faster. We put each title through the paces of copying single layer and dual later DVD’s. We used the Plextor PX 755 16X burner unless otherwise noted.

Almost every commercial DVD that you purchase has CSS copy-protection. This is one of the reasons you cannot use a standard DVD burning application (such as Nero) on its own to back them up. You need some type of method to decrypt this protection to be able to copy the movie files and make a backup.
1Click DVD by itself cannot decrypt CSS out of the box; in fact it is now illegal to do so. A recent lawsuit (pending appeal) against 321 Studio’s DVDXCopy ruled against allowing software manufacturers to include any type of CSS decryption within the software itself.
You will need to use a DVD ripper like DVD43 or AnyDVD to backup protected movie DVDs – which works perfectly! DVD43 is a free software and is regularly updated. Once you have your DVD ripper running in the background you will have a seamless experience of burning. You will still be able to burn a DVD with a click of a button.
Since we are not providing this DVD ripper software, our company is not doing anything illegal.

CSS copy-protection is not the only hurdle you will encounter when trying to backup a commercial DVD. Many commercial DVD’s are dual layer (greater than 4.38GB) which cannot fit on the single layer (4.38GB max) media that is the norm today. This is where compression (a.k.a. transcoding) and re-authoring software (such as 1Click DVD) come into play.
There are different methods to backup a dual layer commercial DVD; one method is to re-author the movie by stripping out the extra features, menus, or any extra sound tracks that you do not need (for example French or Spanish). Depending on the length of the movie this will either keep the original quality level of the DVD or dramatically reduce the compression needed. The other method is to back-up the entire DVD. Although this will require a higher level of compression and a larger loss of quality, there are some people that do not mind the quality loss in favour of keeping the entire DVD with all of its features intact. 1Click DVD allows you to choose whichever method best suits your needs.

We license the best burning engine on the market, VSO’s burn engine. Based on their statistics gathering, we know we now have the highest percent of burn success in the industry, even Nero does not have this success rate, despite their market share. Our transcoding engine is also one of the best, if not the best on the market.

The burners nowadays are DL (Dual Layer), not Dual Burning. The DL denotes the burners ability to burn onto DL media which has about twice the amount of space of a standard SL (Single Layer) disc. The advantage of using DL media is there shouldn’t be any compression needed, thus obtaining basically a 1:1 copy of whatever you are backing up. The downfall is the price of the media…typically around $2 per disc, whereas, SL discs are around $.30 each.
In my personal experience I find most things require little or no compression and for the important stuff I might use a DL, but always make an SL too and really can’t see a difference. Find some Verbatims on sale sometime and try it yourself as you will be the ultimate judge as to whether or not the quality is where you want it to be.

In July I took a 10 night holiday in the beautiful Jungfrau region of Switzerland, staying at the Sunstar Hotel in Wengen with Dan from work, Gary from uni and my mum (though she only came for the last 7 days). By day we explored the area and did some great walks and by night we enjoyed wonderful food and a couple of pints of the local brew. Thankfully, the photos are only of the day.
Some facts about Switzerland: Switzerland (German: Schweiz, French: Suisse, Italian: Svizzera, Romansh: Svizra), officially the Swiss Confederation (Confoederatio Helvetica in Latin, hence its ISO country code CH), is a landlocked country of 7.5 million people in Western Europe with an area of 41,285 km². Switzerland is a federal republic consisting of 26 states called cantons. Berne is the seat of the federal government and de facto capital,[5] while the country’s economic centres are its two global cities, Geneva and especially Zürich. Switzerland is bordered by Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein. Switzerland is multilingual and has four national languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh. Switzerland has a long history of neutrality – it has not been at war since 1815 – and hosts many international organizations, including the Red Cross, the WTO and one of the U.N.’s two European offices.
Switzerland was not invaded during either of the World Wars. During
World War I, Switzerland was home to Vladimir Illych Ulyanov (
Lenin) and he remained there until 1917
[6]. Swiss neutrality was seriously questioned by the
Grimm-Hoffmann Affair in 1917, but it was short-lived. In 1920, Switzerland joined the
League of Nations, and in 1963 the
Council of Europe.
During World War II, detailed invasion plans were drawn up by the Germans,
[7] but Switzerland was never attacked. Switzerland was able to remain independent through a combination of military deterrence, economic concessions to Germany, and good fortune as larger events during the war delayed an invasion. Attempts by Switzerland’s small Nazi party to cause an
Anschluss with Germany failed miserably. The Swiss press vigorously criticised the
Third Reich, often infuriating its leadership. Under General
Henri Guisan, a massive mobilisation of militia forces was ordered. The Swiss military strategy was changed from one of static defence at the borders to protect the economic heartland, to a strategy of organised long-term attrition and withdrawal to strong, well-stockpiled positions high in the Alps known as the
Réduit. Switzerland was an important base for espionage by both sides in the conflict and often mediated communications between the Axis and Allied powers.
Switzerland has a stable modern mixed market economy, with a nominal per capita
GDP that is higher than those of big western European economies,
United States and
Japan ranking 6th behind Luxembourg, Norway, Qatar, Iceland and Ireland. If adjusted for
purchasing power parity it ranks 13th. The World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report currently ranks Switzerland’s economy as the most competitive in the world.
[18] For much of the 20th century, Switzerland was the wealthiest country in Europe by a considerable margin.
[19] Its median household income in 2003 was an estimated 96,000 CHF, the equaivalent of roughly $54,000 USD in pucharsing power parity, considerably higher than in other post-industrial-countries, such as the U.S., Canada or UK.
[20]Switzerland is home to several large multinational corporations. Notable among these are
Nestle,
UBS AG,
Zurich Financial Services,
Credit Suisse,
Novartis,
ABB, and
The Swatch Group. Switzerland is ranked as one of the most powerful economies in the world.
[19]Banking,
tourism, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals are important industries in Switzerland. The manufacture of precision instruments for engineering is important, as is watch-making, and the biological sciences industries as well enjoy a high place in the Swiss economy. The many international organizations in Switzerland contribute to the Swiss economy and labor market.

1Click DVD Copy V5.0 is indeed a very easy to use and powerful program which combines many interesting and useful features with an easy to use and simple user interface. We’ve chosen predefined and the possible individual settings based on the extensive focus groups. Especially the possibility of different compression rates for different TitleSets, make this program powerful and of interest for both, DVD copying newbies and experts. The program works well, as fast as comparable programs, the output is always of very high quality and the backed up movies played back without any problems. This product is very useful if you have a habit of scratching or not properly storing you DVD’s. With this software it is very easy to make ‘extra’ copies in case one gets, um well ‘toasted’.
